Welcome to my Website

When you look at the natural world you will see great beauty. Fleeting moments can take on great significance and brief encounters can leave the watcher breathless. It is the attempt to capture those moments and to try to produce evocative images that drives me on.

The majority of my work is carried out in the Peak District and though I travel extensively throughout the planet I find I am continually drawn to northern environments and their wildlife.

I write every month for Derbyshire Life and have articles and images regularly published in Photography Monthly, Outdoor Photography, Bird Watching, Amateur Photographer, Natural World, and BBC Wildlife. During 2010 and 11 I am Amateur Photographer's Masterclass expert and will be running a number of Masterclasses with them. I am represented by a number of agencies, FLPA, NPL and Photonatura. I am available for commissioned work, workshops, tutorials and tours and lead trips for Natures Images. I have produced images for Sheffield City Council, Western Park Museum, many Wildlife Trusts and numerous books plus a large number of businesses. I am the species-wildlife photography contract holder for Natural England for the East Midlands and Peak District.

I am becoming increasingly concerned with the impact of people on the natural environment and I am working closely with a number of conservation bodies, both Governmental and NGOs to develop site specific codes of practice for photographers. I was recently asked to be one of the key note speakers at a public debate on the ethics of wildlife photography held at the Natural History Museum in London. To see a review of the debate please visit my blog entry for 2 Nov 2011.

If you would like to contact me please go to the contact button above, I look forward to hearing from you.

Every month I sell quite a few images, and I am always delighted to see my work in print. A front cover on the magazine shelf in the newsagents still gives me a great buzz. However, every now and then a couple of images are used that really make me proud. In April this year a set of new stamps was issued with two, Otter and Polecat, being my images. Add to this having May's front cover of the BBC's wildlife magazine with a hedgehog image and I may even start to believe that I can make it as a full time professional!!

I run a number of courses at various venues across the North of England such as Gibraltar Point with the Lincs Wildlife Trust, Waters Edge Country Park or Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire with Going Digital. I also offer one to one tutorials and specific workshops for camera clubs. If you are interested in any of these please visit my Workshops page.
