Natterjack Toads

Natterjack toads are highly specialised to live in a very untoad like dry, sandy habitat. They breed fairly late in spring, around May, in shallow, warm ponds where there is no competition from common toads or frogs. During the day they hide underground in shallow burrows and venture forth at night to hunt. Unlike frogs they don't jump but run across the short vegetation. Natterjacks are fairly rare in the UK and a licence is needed to photograph them. All the shots were taken with an EOS 1Dmk11 and 180 macro or 28-135mm.
