Red Deer at Dawn

I have photographed Red Deer many times but until this year I never really caught the essence of the rut. An early morning in October with the weather for once promising something special, still air, a keen frost and dawn sun was not too be missed. Using backlight and dark backgrounds has allowed the heavy breath of the stag to be shown in an atmospheric way that I really like.

EOS 10D and 500mm lens.
