I have spent quite a bit of time this year photographing local snakes and lizards. Earlier in March I spent some time at an adder colony and whilst there later in the year I came across this bright green common lizard. The vast majority of our local lizards in the Peak District are brown. This lizard blended well with the green grasses but made a lovely sight when it sunbathed on the grey lichen-clad gritstone. Slow worms are not often met in the Peak but occasionally one is found sunbathing early in the day. Grass snakes are far more widely distributed than adders and can be found in many wetland areas. I particularly like this shot because of the reflection. I also noticed when I put these three images together that they are all dominantly green. All shots taken with EOS ID mk 11 180 macro |
