Story of the Month-August

Columbian Ground Squirrels are common throughout British Columbia, however those at lower elevations looked a bit hot and worn. One afternoon we travelled up Whistlers Mountain, primarily to look for Hoary Marmots. In this quest we were singularly unsuccessful but we did spot lots of squirrels. The day before there had been a big snowfall and on the mountain there were many patches of snow. The squirrels at this elevation are clearly adapted for a montane lifestyle and looked to have a much thicker warmer coat. They are not hard to approach if you sit down and slowly shuffle towards them.
