Adders
have always held a special fascination with me. I set out early in
spring this year to work with a small colony in the Peak District.
Choosing the right weather helps greatly in locating and photographing
the animals. Coldish but bright days will find the adders sunning
themselves close to their hibernaculum. Soft footsteps and lying on the
ground can bring you very close to the snakes. I simply waited
until they scented the cold, fresh spring air.
