Story of the Month-March |
|||
|
Turning digital a couple of years ago has created many new drives in my photography, not least a desire to revisit those species I had pictured years ago on slide film. A couple of days in March on the coast allowed me to concentrate on waders. I had managed some good Redshank images in January so on these visits I worked on Sanderlings and Purple Sandpipers. The Sanderlings were feeding on the shore line where the receding waves left fresh pickings. By lying down a little ahead of them I waited until they worked their busy way towards me. They were slightly nervous but because I was prone on the wet sand they took little notice of me, though they showed a healthy respect for dogs and their inconsiderate walkers. Purple Sandpipers are easy targets for the camera, being remarkably confiding. There are many places on the coast where rocky beaches are ideal for the over-wintering birds, Bridlington is one good spot. All using EOS 1D mk 11, 500 mm IS
